Harry Potter: A Journey Through Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts (Harry Potter: A Journey Through, #1)Harry Potter: A Journey Through Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts by Pottermore Publishing
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A short non-fiction ebook that draws comparisons from the magic written by J.K. Rowling in the Harry Potter series to the historical myths and folklore from which it's based. Invisiability, transforming into a creature, and warding off evil are just a few of the topics you'll find in this book.

I found this to be a fascinating read and would recommend it to any fans of Harry Potter who are interested in Mythology and Folklore.

Misadventures of a Virgin (Misadventures, #1)Misadventures of a Virgin by Meredith Wild
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

***MISADVENTURES ARE A SERIES OF STANDALONE ROMANCES THAT CAN BE READ IN ANY ORDER***

“And now I have to worry I may have given him more than my body. I may have just given up my heart.”

June Bell and Kase McCasker grew up as neighbors in Falls Edge. Kase was June’s girlhood crush with whom she shared a memorable kiss before he disappeared off to college and out of her life.

Four years ago, Kase received unexpected news that shook his world and drove him away. Now he’s back, a degree in hand, ready to face his demons. He’s determined to save the struggling farm that’s been in his family for generations.

The time and distance have done nothing to tame Kase’s desire for June, who is the daughter of the man trying to buy his family’s land. Just one look at her, even after all this time, has him ready to risk his future and his heart.

For years, June’s father has been trying to buy the McCasker land. Now, Kase agrees to the sale with one stipulation. June must spend 2 weeks with him on the property.

June agrees, finding out that Kase has never forgotten about her and is intent on finishing what they started all those years ago at the farm. Kase is upfront with his feelings and very possessive of June. As they spend time together and their feelings for each grow into something deeper, June begins to question whether she really wants the sale of the property to go through.

In learning more about Kase, June also learns some startling truths about her own mother’s death and the ongoing feud between their two families. Will this startling revelation destroy any chance of a happily ever after?

This was a great, well-written story. The characters were well developed. I found myself able to really empathize with characters emotions. Meredith Wild is rapidly becoming my favorite romance author.

Gladstone’s School for World Conquerors Book 1: Supervillainy 101Gladstone’s School for World Conquerors Book 1: Supervillainy 101 by Mark Andrew Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of the book through the Goodreads Giveaways program and voluntarily chose to review.

Gladstone’s School for World Conquerors is a top-secret academy for training the children of the world’s greatest super villains. Join a group of students as they uncover the secret of the school’s and their parent’s hidden past.

The story was well written with each character showing their unique personalities. I enjoyed the glimpses of the student’s lives outside of school, particularly the interactions with their super villain parents.

This was a fun read that had me laughing out loud.

The Homecoming Masquerade (Girls Wearing Black, #1)The Homecoming Masquerade by Spencer Baum
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

In a suburb of the nation’s capital lies Thorndike Academy, the world’s most exclusive high school where only the richest, most powerful and influential can get their children in. Where the vampires, or immortals as they prefer to be called, who secretly run the government have created a game. Any girl who shows up to the Homecoming masquerade ball wearing black enters herself in a contest unlike any other. Coronation is a fundraising campaign where the winning girl joins the immortals while the loser becomes her first meal.

In a contest where only the most well-connected girls from the wealthiest, most powerful families can hope to win it surprises everyone when Thorndike newcomer Nicky Bloom arrives to homecoming wearing black. As the night progresses and rumors begin to spread it becomes clear that Nicky Bloom is far more than she seems.

The initial faceoff at the dance between Kim Renwick and Nicky Bloom sets them apart and the battle lines are drawn as Nicky attempts to win supporters while Kim works to cement her position as the one to back. While Kim plays on everyone’s fear of her and her family, Nicky with the help of Jill try to show them that there they have another option.

The story has an interesting premise, the rebel Network with their plan to take down the immortals. The characters were well written and fit the extremely wealthy and entitled cliché. Unfortunately, I feel like it fell short of its potential. The story seemed unbalanced, at times giving too much attention to backstory and not enough to here-and-now (meaning the dance).

The BookminderThe Bookminder by M.K. Wiseman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of the book through the Goodreads Giveaways program and voluntarily chose to review.

Liara, the result of magic gone awry, is the “fey child” outcast of Dvigrad. At 16 years-old, she is found guilty of thievery and witchcraft and banished from the village by the priest who had raised her. However, she is taken in by Nagarath, the mysterious mage of Parentino.

Unfortunately for Liara, Nagarath refuses to apprentice her in magic instead making her his librarian. She gleans what magical knowledge she can in secret. Her first attempt fails, drawing the attention of an evil wizard to the valley. It is only by tapping into Liara’s inherent magic in combination with his own that Nagarath hopes to protect not just Parentino by Liara as well.

However, when Nagarath’s secrets are revealed the fragile trust between them is broken. Thus, igniting the darkness within her. Can Nagarath rescue her from the influence of his greatest enemy before their alliance destroys them all?

The characters were well written and relatable. Liara, with her petulant curiosity and determination to learn. Nagarath, with his eccentric absentmindedness. Wary of each other at first, their relationship evolves into a fragile trust and ultimately a closer bond.

This book was incredibly well written. It started out slow with the action rising to the conclusion. The glossary included at the back was helpful with some of the pronunciations.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I have a newfound appreciation for historical fantasy after reading this book. The real and fantastic were expertly combined to bring the story to life.
